God’s Love Story for You: Embracing Chastity and Trusting His Plan

When I was 15, I found my way back to the Catholic Church. My family was culturally Catholic, attending Mass sporadically, yet the Lord reached out to me in a profound way, drawing me into His fold. His timing was perfect. Amid the turbulence of high school, I was grappling with life’s big questions—about meaning, love, and identity.

My parents had always emphasized the importance of waiting until marriage for intimacy, but the peer pressure surrounding me made me question what was true. Thankfully, my youth ministry provided a space where these cultural claims were addressed head-on. My youth minister assured us that the Church had answers—answers rooted in centuries of wisdom.

It was there that I was introduced to the virtue of chastity. Through speakers like Jason Evert and Christopher West, I began to learn about the Church’s teachings on identity, sexuality, and love. These truths weren’t restrictive; they were freeing. They revealed God’s design for love and relationships—beautiful, sacrificial, and life-giving.

One night at youth group, we were invited to start praying for our future spouse. The speaker shared a touching story about his own journey of chastity and how, after years of waiting and struggles, his perseverance was rewarded. On the night before his wedding, his fiancée presented him with a box filled with letters she had written to her “future husband” over the years. These letters contained her prayers, joys, and struggles, all offered for the man she hadn’t yet met.

As he read through them, he noticed that some of the dates corresponded to critical moments in his own life. Times of difficulty, temptation, and doubt were covered in prayer by his future wife, even though they were strangers at the time. This realization deepened his gratitude for God’s providence and affirmed his decision to marry her.

Inspired by this story, I decided to do the same. For 12 years, I wrote letters to my future husband and prayed for him. But let me be honest—living chastity wasn’t easy.

The Battle for Chastity

The journey wasn’t a fairytale. It was a battle. Temptations came often, and I wasn’t spared from moments of failure. Confession became my refuge as I worked to realign my heart with God’s will. My classmates mocked me for being a “prude,” and I endured moments of loneliness and heartbreak. There were times I doubted whether the man I was praying for even existed.

But through it all, God was faithful. He used those struggles to strengthen me and to prepare me for something greater than I could imagine.

God’s Plan Revealed

One day, when I least expected it, I attended a dinner with the young adult group at my parish. That night, I met the man who would become my husband. As we got to know each other through courtship, I realized he was everything I had prayed for—and more.

On my wedding day, as I walked down the aisle, every tear shed, every moment of loneliness, and every insult I endured vanished. The sacrifices I made were nothing compared to the joy and peace I felt as I approached the man God had prepared for me.

Trusting God’s Love Story

God has a unique love story written for each of us. First and foremost, it’s a story of His love for our souls, calling us into a deep relationship with Him. Beyond that, He has a vocation for each of us, one that will lead to the fullness of life our hearts were made for.

For those called to marriage, pursuing chastity is a gift—not just for your future spouse, but for yourself. It brings a security and joy that empowers you to live abundantly and to share that joy with your future spouse.

No matter your past, it’s never too late to embrace chastity. God is the master of second chances, and His mercy is endless. Open your heart to His guidance, and He will lead you to a vocation filled with purpose, peace, and love.
