Father Jeffrey shines as a true witness to God’s call in the midst of life’s unpredictability. Now serving as the pastor and rector of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in downtown Houston, Father Jeff describes his journey as a testament to God’s providence and the ongoing call to love amidst life’s challenges.

Born and raised as an only child, Father Jeff’s childhood shaped his spirit of vigilance and readiness. Growing up with a mother who faced significant health challenges, he learned early on the value of presence and love. “Even amidst her great suffering, my mother taught me to give without reservation, to love without counting the cost,” he recalls. These formative experiences shaped his understanding of love as a central theme of discipleship—a lesson that would become foundational in his priesthood.

Before entering the seminary, Father Jeff pursued a successful career in the corporate world, working in project management for Hewlett Packard. While excelling in his field, he began to sense a different kind of call—a call to minister to the hearts of those around him. “People at work started seeking me out for counsel, asking about scripture or sharing their struggles,” he shares. “I realized that helping them brought me more joy than the work I was getting paid to do.”

This realization marked the beginning of a discernment process that would lead him to the priesthood. Over time, he saw God’s hand guiding him to let go of his structured plans and embrace the unexpected. “My life has been one of learning to love outside of my structured expectations,” he explains. “God asks us to surrender, not to passivity, but to trust in His plan as stewards of His gifts.”

A Standard Bearer Amidst the Battle

Father Jeff’s ministry is deeply rooted in the image of the standard bearer—a figure on the battlefield who carries the banner, rallying others to the cause. “The standard bearer doesn’t fight with a sword,” he explains. “They hold the banner high, showing the rallying point amidst the confusion of the battlefield. For us, that banner is the cross.”

This perspective has been a guiding light for Father Jeff, particularly in moments of crisis and transition. “Whether in the workplace, the parish, or personal life, the call is always to love,” he says. “How can I exude the love and calm of God in the midst of the storm? That’s the heart of being a standard bearer.”

As rector of the Co-Cathedral, Father Jeff balances the demands of pastoral ministry with the administrative challenges of managing a bustling parish. Despite the complexity of his role, he remains focused on what matters most: souls. “It's not about the buildings we'll build here or the budget. It's always about souls.” he says.

A Life of Trust and Surrender

Father Jeff encourages others to embrace God’s plan with openness and trust. “Being structured is good, but we must remember that we are stewards, not the masters of our lives,” he advises. “Structure paired with humility is essential for good stewardship.”

For those discerning their own call, his message is simple yet profound: “be open and generous.” Father reminds us that while discernment involves seeking His plan, it also requires entrusting ourselves fully to the truth that His will is the right path, without doubt or hesitation.
